Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Why doesn't the installer compress the data?
Plans were made to incorparate some compression routines into the program but it was thought better to exclude them on the grounds that they would be out-dated relatively quickly.

Q.Is there a limit to the amount of files that can be archived?
No. Wininst is dynamic enough to handle as many as you want. You are however limited by the size of file allowed under the type of FAT (File AllocationTable) you are using.

Q.The installer isn't archiving all my files. Why is this?
Check the file attributes for the folder containing the missing files and ensure that none of the attributes are ticked. For more information see Know issues.

Q.Why don't the folders keep their date and time stamp when they are extracted?
Changing the creation date of a folder is'nt posibble under the conditions that this editor is running. You'll find that all programs that zip or archive folders encounter this problem.

Q.Why am I not able to change the graphics or text on the uninstall screens?
Allowing you to do so would have had the effect of increasing the size of the uninstaller that is placed inside the directory of the installed program.

Q.I get the error 'path exceeds permitted length'. What does this mean?
You will encounter this error if the editor encounters a file whos path and filename exceeds 255 characters in length. The windows operating system can only handle path names of 255 characters or less, so put the offending file closer to the root directory or make all the folder names that hold the file shorter.

Know Issues

If a folder has any of it's Attributes (Archive,Hidden,Readonly,System) set, then for some unknown reason all the files inside it get excluded from the final build. However, there is no reason why you should need to set any of these attributes on your folders, so this should not cause any problems with users
